NISSAN North America Headquarters - Nashville / Cool Springs Tennessee
Nissan is the first major automaker to move its North American headquarters to the Southern Auto Corridor. Known around the globe as a guitar-pickin’ country western town, Nashville is now the home of Nissan USA.
Other companies have their manufacturing plants south of the Mason Dixon lines, including Nissan, but no other has moved any of their corporate operations out of Southern California or Detroit.
The headquarters is located about 20 miles south of Nashville, in Cool Springs off Interstate-65 between the towns of Brentwood and Franklin. The Cool Springs area is home to a number of Corporate offices.
Nissan's headquarters, encompasses approximately 450,000 square feet, represents a capital investment by Nissan in excess of $100 million. To help functional groups work together, the new building will break down physical barriers between groups and departments through features such as large, alternating atriums with open stairways on each of its nine main floors. This design feature will enable Nissan North America (NNA) employees to walk from floor to floor, while also creating informal discussion zones for impromptu "stairway" meetings. Each floor’s open environment will also include informal meeting areas. The new Headquarters is a state of the Art complex.
Nissan has a 5.4-million-square-foot manufacturing facility in Smyrna, which began production in 1983. The facility produces Nissan's Altima, Maxima, Frontier, Xterra and Pathfinder models and is consistently ranked by the auto industry benchmark studies as one of North America's most productive auto plants. The company also operates a 1-million-square-foot engine and transmission manufacturing facility in Decherd, Tennessee which began production in 1997. Together, the two plants employ more than 8,000 Tennesseans.
Nissan's decision in 1980 to manufacture vehicles in Tennessee was a paradigm moment for the state. The auto industry today employs more than 125,000 Tennesseans working for more than 1,000 companies pumping more than $3.5 billion in wages into the state annually. Nissan’s decision to move their Headquarters to Tennessee is another historic step forward in the relationship between Nissan and Tennessee.
The jobs that Nissan will bring with this move to Tennessee range from executive to administrative, marketing, engineering, finance, communications and other corporate functions, plus a host of other companies that will also relocate to Nashville in the support of the automakers North American Headquarters.
